Hi, I’m Selina
I am a dedicated tutor specializing in reading and writing instruction, Spanish homework help and test preparation for students in grades 3–9. I help students build confidence, strengthen academic skills, and achieve success in and beyond the classroom.
About Me
I am a dedicated tutor specializing in reading and writing instruction, as well as Spanish homework support and test preparation for students in grades 3–9.
I offer personalized 1:1 support and small group classes designed to strengthen literacy skills, build confidence, and help students succeed in school and beyond.
Alongside tutoring, I am a professional writer working with a private family foundation, where I lead storytelling and communications. I also collaborate with nonprofits across the U.S. and internationally to share their mission and community impact.
I hold a B.A. in English Literature and am a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholar through the U.S. Department of State.
My teaching approach
What Makes My Tutoring Unique?
What makes my tutoring unique is my kind, patient, and empathetic approach. I take the time to build meaningful relationships with my students, getting to know them as individuals as well as learners. I enjoy learning about their interests, hobbies, and goals outside of school, which helps me connect their personal passions to their academic growth. By recognizing how these areas influence one another, I can provide more personalized and effective support.
Aligned with school learning
I track student progress and align lessons with classroom standards, including Florida B.E.S.T. expectations. Parents receive ongoing feedback to ensure consistent growth.
Structured accountability
Homework is assigned after every session to reinforce learning and build lasting skills.
Supportive learning environment
I create a positive, encouraging space where students feel comfortable and engaged. Light snacks are available to help students stay focused.
Overall, my goal is to help students become confident, capable readers and writers while building strong academic habits and a love for learning.
Class Preparation & Expectations
To help students get the most out of each session, please ensure they arrive prepared with the following items:
A folder for homework and class materials
A pencil bag with pencils, a pen, and highlighters for in-class activities
A water bottle or a portable mug (students are welcome to enjoy herbal tea during class if they’d like)
Phone Policy
To maintain a focused learning environment, phones will be collected at the start of class and returned at the end. If there is an emergency, parents can contact me directly at any time during the session.
Thank you for your support in creating a productive, distraction-free learning space for all students!
Online sessions are also available.
